LOS ANGELES — Jake Selstad can't stop breaking records. For a second straight week, the senior topped his own UC San Diego track and field record in the 800-meter run, posting a time of 1:49.47, a 0.32 second improvement on his old mark, at Occidental College's Occidental Invitational on Saturday. The new record was one of three new top-ten marks in UC San Diego history from the meet, with
Isabelle Shepherd adding her name to the Tritons' record books in the women's 800 and
Andrew Schulz making the list in the men's 5K.
This is the third time that Selstad has broken the Tritons' 800-meter record this season, each time covering the distance in less than 1:50. Selstad also picked up UC San Diego's best finishing position in Los Angeles, his record-breaking effort bringing him across the line in third place.
