FULLERTON, Calif. — The UC San Diego track and field record books will need some updating after the Tritons' performance at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Tune-Up meet on Friday. Twelve scholar-athletes combined to set 13 new top-ten marks in UC San Diego history Friday afternoon to accompany eight event wins for the Tritons.
Â
Nolan Crespo (100 and 200-meter dash) and
Matthew Amankonah (shot put and discus) each set two of those new all-time marks themselves.
Lizzie Dolan and
Idara Ibekwe helped the Tritons' 4x100-meter relay team secure a new top-ten result, then each proceeded to set individual top-ten marks, in the 100-meter hurdles and the 100-meter dash respectively.
Â
Adding to Friday's eight victories, five Tritons who fell just short of an overall win did still come home as the top collegiate athlete in their events. Crespo took that honor in the 100 meters, as did Ibekwe in the same event on the women's side.
Chelsey Romo was the top collegiate finisher in the 800-meter run, her highest placing of the season. Jumpers
Phoebe Ladd and
Julia Di Silvestri topped the collegiate charts in the long jump and triple jump respectively.

TRITON TIDBITS
- By setting new all-time marks in both the discus and shot put on Friday, Matthew Amankonah joins Idara Ibekwe as the only Tritons to set multiple all-time marks at a single meet more than once this season. Both have accomplished the feat twice
- The Tritons' 13 new top ten marks in program history are the most they have set at a single meet this season; their previous best was 12, set at the Vince O'Boyle Classic in Irvine at the beginning of April
- UC San Diego swept the hurdle events on Friday, taking top spot in all four. These are only the seventh and eighth events that the Tritons have won in both men's and women's competition at the same meet this season
UP NEXT
The Tritons who did not compete on Friday will instead be in action on Saturday, as UC San Diego will take part in the Occidental Invitational at Occidental College in Los Angeles. Next weekend will be the Tritons' final competition of the season, as they return to Azusa Pacific University for the APU Last-Chance meet, May 13-14.
