AZUSA, Calif. — The Tritons know how to go out with a bang. In their final competition of the 2022 season, Friday and Saturday's APU Last Chance meet, UC San Diego's track and field team set three school records among a total of twelve new top-ten marks in program history. Seniors
Jake Selstad and
Andrew Thomas each improved on records they set earlier this year, with junior and first-time record breaker
Nolan Crespo joining them atop the UC San Diego all-time charts.
Â
Selstad achieved his third record in as many weekends (and fourth this season) in the 800-meter run Friday night, taking first place in a time of 1:48.69, which also makes him the Big West Conference's fastest man in the event this season. Selstad's fellow senior and distance runner, Thomas, first broke the Tritons' 1500-meter run record at the Aztec Invitational in March and improved on his time by 0.39 seconds in Azusa Saturday evening, setting the new program-best mark at 3:49.32.
Â
Crespo put his name atop the record books for the first time Saturday afternoon, finishing the 100-meter dash in a mere 10.36 seconds, 0.03 seconds faster than previous record holder Paul Doan's 2018 effort. Crespo's record-setting pace brought him across the line in third place overall, but he was the fastest collegiate competitor in the event.
Â
This weekend is the first time that the Tritons have set multiple school records at a single competition in the Division I era.

TRITON TIDBITS

- Nathan Yoder exactly matched his personal-best mark of 48' 2.75" in the triple jump on Saturday, which stands as the seventh longest jump in Tritons' history
- All but 21 members of this year's squad are set to return for next season, with Big West Athlete of the Week honoree Amari Jenkins and new 100-meter record holder Nolan Crespo among those set to suit up for the Tritons again in 2023
