Selstad One of Three Record Breakers at Triton Invite on Saturday

Jake Selstad set the UC San Diego men's 800-meter record as pro athletes broke a pair of stadium records

LA JOLLA, Calif. — UC San Diego senior Jake Selstad set a new school record in the 800-meter Run on Saturday, one of three athletes to break records on the final day of the Triton Invitational. Selstad became the first UC San Diego athlete to cover 800 meters in less than 1:50, finishing with a time of 1:49.97, surpassing the previous record set by Daniel Anderson in 2010.

A pair of Triton Track & Field Stadium records fell as well on Saturday. American thrower Sean Donnelly shattered the old men's hammer throw record, setting the new mark at 246' 7" (75.15 meters), exactly five feet beyond the previous best. In the women's shot put, Swedish Olympian Fanny Roos just barely missed the 19-meter mark in her record-breaking performance, setting the new stadium record at 18.99 meters (62' 3.75").

Selstad was one of eight Tritons to set new or improve on top-ten marks in school history on Saturday, bringing the total to an even ten updates to the UC San Diego top-ten list for the weekend. His first-place finish was one of six event wins for the Tritons.
