UC San Diego

Jake Selstad record breaker again

Track & Field

Selstad Breaks 800-Meter Record Again in Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. — For the second time this month, senior Jake Selstad set a UC San Diego track and field record in the men's 800-meter run, finishing the race in a time of 1:49.79 at the Steve Scott Invitational on Saturday. Selstad's time is a 0.18-second improvement on his previous record, which he set at the Triton Invitational on April 9.

The senior's record-breaking pace took him across the line in first place, securing one of two event wins for the Tritons at UC Irvine. The second win came courtesy of Andrew Thomas, the only other Triton to break a school record this season, who took top spot in the 1500-meter run. Selstad's record was one of five new top ten marks in UC San Diego history set at the meet.

The Steve Scott Invitational was one of two meets for the Tritons this weekend, with a small group of scholar-athletes competing at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, Friday and Saturday.
