LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's golf team plays in its penultimate tournament of the season this week, heading up the California coast to take part in the UCSB Collegiate Classic, hosted by UC Santa Barbara April 11-12 at Sandpiper Golf Club.
The highest-ranked squad in the 14-team field is Grand Canyon at No. 103. A total of five Big West Conference schools will be competing including Cal Poly, CSUN, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, and UC Santa Barbara.
This will be the third time that the Tritons have played in the tournament. In 2021, they finished seventh of 10 with
Akira Isayama tying for 17th of 57. In 2019, they placed fourth of eight with Adam Navigato tying for fifth of 56. Boise State won the team title in 2021 and UC Santa Barbara won in 2019. The 2020 event was canceled due to the pandemic.
Last week, UC San Diego finished 21st at Seattle U's Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay in Washington. Three Tritons -
Elliot Bunyaviroch,
Davis McDowell, and
Ryan Vaughan all tied for 73rd. The tourney was shortened to just a single round on Tuesday as inclement weather forced the cancellation of the first two rounds on Monday.Â
All action from Sandpiper can be followed with
