Tritons Travel to Hawai'i for Start of Three-Game Road Slate

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The 12th-ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team (17-8, 2-1 BWC) will travel to Honolulu to take on No. 5 Hawai'i (12-5, 3-0 BWC) for its Senior Night this Friday, April 1. This will be the first of three consecutive Big West road matches the Tritons will play leading up to the Big West Conference tournament that begins April 21.

WHAT'S AT STAKE
UC San Diego travels to Hawai'i coming off a last-second 11-10 win over No. 17 Loyola Marymount at Senior Night, with Annika Arroyo netting the game-winner as the seventh attacker. Finishing their final homestand of the season with a win, Tritons finished this season with a home record of 5-3, all five wins coming against top-25 opponents. The Rainbow Warriors have only one home loss this season, which came back on March 18 against then 3rd-ranked USC.
 
The Tritons are 1-1 against Hawai'i over their last two meetings, with UC San Diego taking home a 10-9 win against the Rainbow Warriors back on March 10, 2021 at Canyonview Aquatics Center.
 
END OF AN ERA
After more than four decades of service to UC San Diego – including the last 42 as the head men's water polo coach – Denny Harper has announced that he will retire effective July 1. Harper also served as the head coach for the UC San Diego women's water polo team from 1983 through 1999, collecting 245 wins and earning five national titles.

Ciara Franke cemented herself as the 10th all-time goal scorer in UC San Diego history against Loyola Marymount, scoring four goals, including three penalty shots, against Loyola Marymount. With 199 career goals, Franke moved ahead of Brenda Reiton (195). Franke has netted 46 goals, despite missing six matches over the course of the season. Franke is two goals behind Sydney Gstettenbauer (201) and three goals behind Lauren Boyer (202).

Bennett Bugelli recorded 11 more saves against Loyola Marymount, bringing her career total up to 770 career saves. In the win over UCSB at the Kalbus Invitational, Bugelli moved up to third all-time, passing Maryam Hadiashar, 697 saves, and Leona Mason, 701 saves. This season, she has already leapt up from ninth place after making 25 saves at the UCSB Winter Invite. Next on the list is Jefi Paulsen with 852 saves.

With the win over Loyola Marymount on March 27, head coach Brad Kreutzkamp moved up to 260 career wins, after already having surpassed his former head coach and mentor Denny Harper earlier this season for the program record.
