LA JOLLA, Calif — The UC San Diego track and field team certainly enjoys home cooking, as the Tritons collected 14 total event wins and recorded four new top-ten performances in program history at the San Diego Collegiate Challenge on Friday.
UC San Diego's first home meet of the season was a particularly good day for Triton runners. Freshman sprinter
Idara Ibekwe set a new all-time mark on the way to victory in the 200-meter Dash and picked up a second win in the 100.
Maxine Schultz,
Nolan Crespo, and the men's 4x100-meter Relay team all produced new top-ten results as well.

"It was a tremendous day and it felt like a big breakthrough meet to the athletes having their first normal home meet in two years," Co-Head Coach
Darcy Ahner said. "Their spirits were high and they competed well across all event areas, winning 14 events between the men and women against a very good Navy team."
TRITON TIDBITS
- UC San Diego's total of 14 event wins between the men's and women's teams is their highest total since February 2020, when the Tritons collected 14 combined event wins at the Mangrum Invitational in San Marcos, Calif.
- Sylvana Northrop and Zeinab Torabi both added second-place finishes to the Tritons' collection on the day, in the 3000-meter Run and 400-meter Hurdles respectively
- On the men's side, Max Halvax picked up a second-place finish in the 400-meter Run, with Saliou Ndiaye right behind him in third
- Blake Walkowiak, Matthew Amankonah, and Katie Cuneo highlighted a largely disappointing day for Triton throwers, Walkowiak finishing second in discus while Amankonah and Cuneo picked up third in shot put and javelin, respectively
UP NEXT
The Tritons stay in San Diego for their next two meets, first heading down the coast to Point Loma for the Point Loma Nazarene Invitational March 19. The next week, March 25-26, they head to San Diego State for the Aztec Invitational.
