LOS ANGELES – UC San Diego recorded two team records and the Tritons were on the podium in seven events as the UC San Diego women's swimming & diving team captured the 2022 MPSF Championship for the first time on the final day of the ninth MPSF conference championship hosted at East Los Angeles College. The Triton women finished with 712.5 points to top second place Hawai'i (700).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Triton women took first in three events.
Juli Arzave posted 16:38.17 in the 1650 yard freestyle, a full 32 seconds before the next finisher. In the 200 yard breaststroke,
Katja Pavicevic posted a time of 2:13.45 and she also finished first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.66. The UC San Diego 400 freestyle relay team not only took first, but set a team record. The team was comprised of
Ciara Franke,
Jordan Phillips,
Miranda Renner, and
Tina Reuter.
Ciara Franke was responsible for another team record in the 100 yard freestyle, swimming a 49.89, she took second place, only 0.07 behind first.
Tina Reuter took third in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:00.75.
On the men's side,
Ivan Kurakin placed third in the 1650 yard freestyle and
Aidan Simpson placed first in the 200 yard breaststroke. As a team, the UC San Diego men placed fourth of seven with 575 points.

The Tritons will compete next in the National Invitational Championship hosted by the CSCAA.
