WHAT'S AT STAKE THIS WEEKEND
UC San Diego faced tough competition last weekend, hosting the Triton Invitational, with a 2-2 record across the tournament. The Tritons took home wins against No. 18 San Diego State and No. 13 Long Beach State, improving their record to 6-4 overall and to 4-4 against top-25 ranked teams. To date, UC San Diego is 2-0 against unranked squads this season.
Â
NEW LOOK OFFENSE
The Tritons returned Big West Player of the Year
Ciara Franke and All-Big West Freshman Team selection
Annika Arroyo from last season, and the pair have combined to score 37 of the team's 98 goals this season. But those scoring outputs have been part of a balanced effort from UC San Diego thanks to strong showings from a contingent of freshmen who have seen major roles already this season.
Lucia Doak (12 goals, 5 assists),
Kendall Thomas (10 goals, 1 assist), and
Courtney Okumura (6 goals, 5 assists) all have been major contributors in their first collegiate seasons.
Â
ONSLAUGHT BY ONSTOTT
Taylor Onstott had her two best games of the season Sunday as part of the Triton Invitational, scoring a goal and two assists against No. 10 UC Davis before helping push the Tritons over No. 13 Long Beach State with two goals and four assists, both season-high marks. On the season, Onstott has seven goals and seven assists.
RECORD WATCH
Bennett Bugelli recorded 14 more saves across two matches on the second day of the Triton Invitational, after recording 11 on Saturday, bringing her career total up to 679 career saves, good for fifth all time. This season, she has already leapt up from ninth place after making 25 saves at the UCSB Winter Invite. Next on the list is Maryam Hadiashar with 697 saves.
