GREENSBORO, N.C. – UC San Diego swim and dive teams sent eight Tritons to Greensboro, N.C. to compete in the Toyota US Open. The group consisted of a few freshmen and upperclassmen including
Katja Pavicevic,
Jordan Phillips,
Miranda Renner,
Chloe Braun,
Ivan Kurakin,
Shane Burns,
Andrija Petkovic, and
Luigi Franco.
ON THE WOMEN'S SIDE
Katja Pavicevic led the Tritons when she broke the 20-year-old UC San Diego team record in the 100-meter breaststroke on Friday with a time of 1:10.47, finishing third in the B final. She competed in the 200-meter IM on Thursday, posting a time of 2:24.64, and wrapped up her competition on Saturday in the 200-meter breaststroke and finished 10th with a 2:33.12 time.
Jordan Phillips competed on Friday in the 100-meter butterfly and posted a time of 1:03.67.
Chloe Braun competed with Pavicevic in the 100-meter breaststroke on Friday and finished 21st out of a field of 57 with a time of 1:11.57.
Miranda Renner competed with Phillips in the 100-meter butterfly, posting a 1:04.42 time. On Saturday, Renner posted a time of 58.43 in the 100-meter freestyle.
ON THE MEN'S SIDE
On Thursday,
Ivan Kurakin posted a 3:55.93 time to finish 10th out of 40 swimmers in the 400-meter freestyle. In the 200-meter freestyle, Kurakin finished 9th with a time of 1:50.74.
Shane Burns competed on Saturday in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:07.41 to finish 28th.
Luigi Franco competed on Friday in the 100-meter backstroke and posted a time of 58.43 and then competed in the 200-meter backstroke with Burns with a time of 2:07.32. Competing with Kurakin in the 200-meter freestyle,
Andrija Petkovic posted a 1:56.53 time. In the 100-freestyle on Saturday, Petkovic finished 35th with a time of 51.45.

Head coach
Marko Djordjevic was excited about the squad's performance in North Carolina, "we had some great performance for this time of the year despite just missing a couple of Olympic Trials cuts."
He added, "What a great performance by
Katja Pavicevic in setting a new school record after the old one was held for almost 20 years. I am very excited for the rest of the season."
UP NEXT
After taking a few weeks off, UC San Diego women's and men's swim and dive squads will return to host Wisconsin on Saturday, Dec. 31 at the Canyonview Aquatic Center.
