MALIBU, Calif. – In a Saturday afternoon double dual meet, both UC San Diego squads headed north to face Pepperdine's women's squad and both of UC Santa Barbara's squads. Following the end of the double dual meet, the three teams competed in an invitational.
The Tritons took first in 20 events with the women taking 13 and the men taking seven.
ON THE WOMEN'S SIDE
Starting the meet with a win, the 200-yard medley relay team made up of
Jordan Phillips,
Katja Pavicevic,
Miranda Renner, and
Mackenzie Lee took first with a 1:41.16 time.
Juli Arzave took first in the 1650-yard freestyle, swimming for a grueling 16:57.92 minutes.
In the seventh event, Phillips took first with a time of 55.81 in the 100-yard backstroke. Swimming the 200-yard breaststroke, Pavicevic took first with a time of 2:17.71. Arzave posted a 5:01.21 in the 500-yard freestyle to take her second first-place finish. Phillips also finished first for a second time in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.27.
ON THE MEN'S SIDE
In the 500-yard freestyle,
Ivan Kurakin took first with a time of 4:30.98. With a time of 49.47,
Chad Morrison took first in the 100-yard butterfly. In the 200-yard medley relay, swam by
Andrija Petkovic,
Luke Pusateri,
Chad Morrison, and
Justin Morsch finished 0.38 seconds behind first to take second with a time of 1:31.64.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team took second with a time of 3:02.96 and was swum by Petkovic, Kurakin, Morsch, and Aidan Rikic.
Nathan Lee took second in the 200-yard breaststroke with Robby Griswold, Luigi Franco, and Shane Burns finishing in third, fourth, and fifth.
QUOTABLE
Speaking about the amount of swimming the team did this weekend, head coach
Marko Djordjevic commented, "we had some amazing individual performances, I am proud of them and how they are handling tiredness and pressure during some difficult and challenging races."
"The team looks great, maybe even stronger than last year at this point in the season," Djordjevic added.

The UC San Diego squads will head east to Utah for the three-day Trailblazer Invitational Nov. 17-19.
