Tritons Fall to Cal at Home

LA JOLLA, Calif.  – Hosting Cal women's swim and dive, UC San Diego fell to the Golden Bears in a dual on Friday afternoon at Canyonview Aquatics Center.
 
The Bears finished with a score of 172 while the Tritons posted a score of 92.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the 1000-yard freestyle, Juli Arzave and Sophia Bell took first and second over the Bears with times of 10:08.32 and 10:14.97 respectively. The closest Bear was a full eight seconds behind Arzave, who set a pool record beating the two-year-old record from 2020. Coming in second by 1.04, Aneta Wyzga posted a 1:51.62 time in the 200-yard freestyle.
 
Another pool record was broken when Katja Pavicevic took first in the 100-yard breaststroke by 0.67 with a time of 1:02.14. Pavicevic now holds the pool record and team record for the Tritons. In the 200-yard backstroke, Valerie Yue posted a 2:04.37 time to take second.
 
Pavicevic came within 0.05 of another pool record with a time of 2:15.32 in the 200-yard breaststroke as the Tritons took first, second, and third in the event. She was followed by freshmen, Sabrina Bennani (2:22.01) and Chloe Braun (2:22.38). Jordan Phillips took second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.08. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Tina Reuter, Miranda Renner, Phillips, and Wyzga took second with a time of 1:33.71.
 
UP NEXT
Both UC San Diego squads head north to Pepperdine to dual with their host and MPSF counterpart UC Santa Barbara on Sat., Nov. 5. The meet will begin at 11 am in Malibu, Calif.
