LA JOLLA, Calif.—After a record-setting season, outside hitter
Ava McInnes was named to the All-Big West Second Team, as announced Wednesday by the conference.
It is the second-straight season McInnes has earned all-conference honors after being named to the Big West All-Freshman Team and All-Big West Honorable Mention and in 2021.
The sophomore finished the regular season atop The Big West standings in kills per set (3.81), as well as first in total kills (469). She also finished third in points per set (4.35) and first in total points (535.5) this season.
McInnes' 469 kills ranks second in the all-time UC San Diego record books for single season numbers and first for the Division I era. Her 1374 attack attempts also ranks first-all time for a single season for the Tritons.
The Tustin, Calif. native hit .213 on the season and set a career-high with 31 kills against Long Beach State (Oct. 14) which also tied the all-time single match record for UC San Diego. For her efforts, she was awarded Big West Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 17)—her first conference weekly honor. McInnes also finished second on the team with 29 aces, third in blocks (65.0) and fifth in digs (1.72 avg/s).
The Tritons finished eighth with a 7-13 record in Big West play in their second season of Division I competition. UC San Diego swept the season series with Cal State Fullerton, CSU Bakersfield, CSUN and split the season series with UC Riverside, 1-1.
