STOCKTON, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's golf team has two players inside the top-10 as the second round of the Visit Stockton Invitational wrapped up Friday.
Sophomore
Davis McDowell is six-under par and tied for fifth, while freshman
Nathan Tseng is tied for seventh at five-under.
As a team, the Tritons are in 11th heading into Saturday's third and final round at Stockton Golf & Country Club.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After shooting a season-best round of 274 in Thursday's opening round, UC San Diego totaled a 294 Friday, dropping the team from second to 11th.
Tseng carded a 67 Friday to go along with his round one score of 70 for a total of 137, five-under par on the par-71, 6,566-yard course. Finishing Thursday in 27th-place, Tseng shot up the leader board 20 spots after his stellar round Friday.
McDowell's even-par round of 71 Friday came after a career-best round of 65 on Thursday.

THE LEADERS
Grand Canyon, which made a late run Thursday to knock UC San Diego out of first-place and into second, retained the top spot in the 16-team tourney after shooting a 277 Friday for a total of 550, 18-under par.Â
Second place UC Irvine is four strokes back and third-place San Jose State is five strokes off the leader.
After two rounds, 10 teams are under-par.
Jakub Hrinda from George Washington leads the 93-player field at 10-under. Just behind are Grand Canyon's Matthew Braley at nine-under and Matthew Manganello from Fresno State at eight-under.Â
A total of 35 players are under-par following 36 holes.
TRITON TIDBITS
• UC San Diego's 274 on Thursday is eight strokes better than the team's previous low round this season, which was a 282 in the first round of the Ram Masters Invitational in Colorado.
•
Davis McDowell has been UC San Diego's top finisher in each of the team's last two events.
• This is the first time that UC San Diego has played in this tournament.
• There are six Big West teams in contention including Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, and UC Santa Barbara.
• This is one of two three-day tournaments the Tritons will compete in this season, the second being the El Macero Classic in mid-April.
UP NEXT
The third and final round gets underway Saturday morning with the Tritons teeing off at 9:24 a.m. They will be playing with CSUN and UC Riverside, both of those teams also out of The Big West Conference.
