WHAT'S AT STAKE THIS WEEKEND
UC San Diego returned just four starters from last season's ninth-ranked squad, and new players combined forces with veterans of previous squads to put together two wins against top-25 opponents last week. Freshmen Lucia Doak and Courtney Okumura netted their first career goals last week, Doak now has two goals and Okumura three, while Ciara Franke and Annika Arroyo provided the bulk of the offense, with 12 goals and eight goals to their names, respectively.

DE-FENSE! DE-FENSE!
In the first four games of their season at the UCSB Winter Invite, UC San Diego held opponents to less than eleven goals in each, with the opposition being held to single-digits against each opponent other than No. 3 UCLA. "We definitely are doing well on individual defense, in particular in the cage and 2-meter defense, [though] our team defense has a way to go" said UC San Diego head coach Brad Kreutzkamp after the tournament ended. "We'll get there but it certainly is something we need to work on."

RECORD WATCH

With 654 career saves, Bennett Bugelli ranks fifth all time, having already leapt up from ninth place over the span of four games, making 25 saves at the UCSB Winter Invite. Next on the list is Maryam Hadiashar with 697 saves.

Goalie Saves Player Name Years Played
1,465 saves Courtney Miller 2013-2016
852 saves Jefi Paulsen 1987-1990
701 saves Leona Mason 1993-1996
697 saves Maryam Hadiashar 1997-2000
654 saves Bennett Bugelli 2017-

Coach Kreutzkamp also changed his standing in the record books last weekend by collecting his 246th career win, moving him to the top spot all-time with the Tritons. "It's a bit surreal getting that record, I'm not sure it's set in yet," said coach Kreutzkamp. "Looking back at all the athletes that have come and gone it's mind blowing, but every single one of them had a hand in this. Having two amazing associate head coaches in Jenna Williamson and Nicki Davidson was critical and I can't thank them enough."

"It's simply mind blowing to be on any list with [Denny Harper]. As the father of women's water polo here at UCSD, I hope he's proud that one of his assistant coaches was the one to catch him. I've learned so much from him and it's pretty cool to be with him on this list now."
