Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons (6-7, 3-1 Big West) held the slight advantage in a tight first quarter, paced by
Sydney Brown's four points and seven rebounds. UC San Diego stretched its lead to as many as six after a three from
Ula Chamberlin and a layup by S. Brown and took a 16-11 lead into the first quarter break.
Â
UC San Diego got off to a hot start in the second period, outscoring the Rainbow Wahine (4-7, 1-1 Big West) 10-2 for the largest lead of the first half 26-13 with 7:12 to play in the quarter. UH responded with an 11-2 run of its own, but back-to-back baskets by Cangelosi gave the Tritons the momentum and they took a 35-28 lead into the halftime intermission.
Â
The Tritons put together a dominant 21-5 run in the third period, including 11 for
Sydney Brown. UC San Diego shot 9-for-18 from the field and 6-for-11 from three-point range in the period and took a commanding 61-43 lead into the final quarter of play.
Â
UC San Diego continue to stay hot from beyond the arc in the final period, knocking down 5-of-10 from long range to secure the victory, 82-58, and improve to 3-1 in the four-game homestand.
