LONG BEACH, Calif.— UC San Diego women's basketball fell to Long Beach State 62-44 on Thursday evening in Walter Pyramid.

The Tritons (6-8, 3-2 Big West) were led by
Emily Cangelosi who finished with a game-high 14 points and team-high eight rebounds.
Parker Montgomery added 10 points and
Bridget Mullings chipped in six rebounds for UC San Diego.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons took the early lead in the first quarter with back-to-back buckets from Cangelosi and a layup by
Bridget Mullings to lead 7-2. UC San Diego saw a string of five points from
Parker Montgomery, bringing the lead to 14-9 with 3:00 remaining in the first period. However, a 5-0 run by the Beach tied the game in the closing seconds and the teams went into the first break tied 14-all.

The Beach used a 9-0 run to open the quarter and it was all LBSU in the second period, outscoring UC San Diego 19-9 on 47 percent shooting (8-of-17). The Tritons surrendered seven turnovers in the period, resulting in 11 points for LBSU on the other end. Long Beach State took a 33-23 lead into the halftime break.

The deficit grew to 15 early in the third quarter before back-to-back threes by Cangelosi and Montgomery cut the lead back to single digits. The Tritons continued to battle but trailed 47-33 heading into the final quarter break.

The Beach continued to build its lead to begin the final quarter before the Tritons put together a 9-3 run sparked by freshman
Izzy Forsyth. But the deficit proved to be too much and UC San Diego fell to LBSU 62-44.
