ON THE MOVE
After 20 seasons playing as an NCAA Division II team, the entire athletics program has begun a four-year transition to NCAA Division I, culminating in full DI status as a member of the Big West Conference for the 2024-25 academic year. At that time, all sports will be eligible for conference and NCAA postseason play.

LAST TIME OUT
Previously, the Tritons opened their Big West era facing UC Davis at home. The first court was the highlight of singles for UC San Diego. Although Daniel Traxler fell in set one, 6-3, he fought back to win sets two and three, 6-3, 6-2, to claim victory. View the full recap here.

THE END OF A LONG PAUSE
It was 352 days between the time the Tritons' 2020 season was paused on March 11, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and their 2021 season opener on Feb. 26, 2021.

NEW SEASON, NEW TRITONS
Three newcomers have joined the Tritons for the 2020-21 season. Eric Silberman is a freshman who previously competed at nearby Torrey Pines High School. He was named to the All-Avocado West League First Team three-straight years.

Tristan Taylor comes to the Tritons all the way from Mouratoglou International School in France, the same school which sophomore Fraser Leslie attended.

Daniel Traxler comes to UC San Diego by way of San Diego State. With the Aztecs, Traxler earned Scholar-Athlete status for achieving a GPA of 3.2 or higher.

TIMMER WILLING'S 20TH SEASON
Timmer Willing is in his ninth season as head coach of the University of California San Diego men's tennis program in 2020-21. It marks Willing's 20th season on the UC San Diego staff after serving as an assistant coach for 11 years prior to taking over the head men's position.

In 2019-20, UC San Diego had one of its best seasons of Willing's tenure. The Tritons compiled a 9-4 record under Willing in their final year of Division II, with two of their losses coming to Division I opponents. After starting the season at 5-1, the Tritons debuted at No. 7 in the Oracle/ITA National Rankings, which was their highest ranking under Willing and the team's best slot since ranking sixth in 2008. During the season, UC San Diego recorded a perfect 3-0 record against nationally-ranked top-10 opponents. The Tritons were poised for continued success before the season was ultimately cut short due to COVID-19.

REGISTRATION COMPLETE
All eligible members of the UC San Diego men's tennis team completed their voter registration as part of a larger initiative to register all Triton scholar-athletes to vote. In all, more than 90% of eligible UC San Diego scholar-athletes registered to vote in November's election.

UP NEXT
The Tritons' next match currently on their schedule is against Hawai'i Pacific on April 3 in Honolulu. More events are being added to the Tritons' schedule as they are confirmed, and their up-to-date schedule can be viewed here.

About UC San Diego Athletics
After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of the Big West Conference in NCAA Division I. The 23-sport Tritons earned 30 team and nearly 150 individual national championships during its time in Divisions III and II and helped guide 1,400 scholar-athletes to All-America honors. A total of 83 Tritons have earned Academic All-America accolades, while 38 have received prestigious NCAA Post Graduate Scholarships. UC San Diego scholar-athletes exemplify the academic ideals of one of the world's preeminent institutions, graduating at an average rate of 91 percent, one of the highest rates among institutions at all divisions.

Return To Sport… Safely
In order for UC San Diego scholar-athletes to be permitted to return to training and competition safely and within federal, state, local and university guidelines, the athletic department implemented a number of measures designed to complement and enhance the university's highly-successful Return To Learn program.  Notable actions include being physically distanced when practical, including during out-of-season training sessions; wearing masks, except when undergoing physically strenuous exercise; and maintaining proper hygiene.  Athletes, coaches and staff are testing at a higher frequency than the campus population, teams adhere to CDC, NCAA and Big West Conference guidelines and department officials participate in regular meetings with conference and university-affiliated physicians and the UC San Diego emergency operations staff.
