LA JOLLA, Calif. – The UC San Diego baseball team has partnered with the Vs. Cancer for the past several seasons, raising money for pediatric cancer. This season, the team has already reached and succeeded its fundraising goal of $3,500. As of now, the Tritons have raised $3,948.
"Vs. Cancer has an amazing mission that helps athletes and teams raise money and awareness for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and our team had been really excited about this opportunity to help make a difference in people's lives," stated Senior
Mark Quinby, who is leading fundraising for the team this year. "Many of us have been affected by cancer in some way or another and it will continue to be something to fight against."
"Our team has had a great start to this year's fundraiser, but we're not done yet, there's much more we can do to help these families and raise awareness. Triton baseball has been a part of the Vs. Cancer fundraiser for many years now and will continue to be for a long time I'm sure. For us, this is a tradition that we are all very fortunate to be a part of."
In addition to exceeding their fundraising goal, the Tritons currently have raised the ninth most funds out of any team in the nation. Proceeds help fund child life programs at local hospitals and go to research to find a cure for pediatric brain tumors.
Founded in 2012, Vs. Cancer is a nonprofit fundraising campaign under the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. The organization was founded by Chase Jones who was a freshman on the University of North Carolina baseball team in 2006 when he was diagnosed with a Stage IV brain tumor. Chase credits support from his team and national research as reasons why he has remained cancer free.
