Fab Five: Jonathan Sabouri

Photographs have the ability to capture important pieces of our past and help us recall people, places, feelings and memories that made an impact on our lives. For many scholar-athletes, pictures secure those special moments and assist in making their collegiate careers last forever.

In a feature called “Fab Five”, Triton scholar-athletes are tasked to pick five of their favorite photos throughout their career to be highlighted on UCSDtritons.com.

As our “Fab Five” series continues, UC San Diego soccer rising senior Jonathan Sabouri shares his collection and a brief caption describing each moment.

Sabouri hails from Carlsbad, Calif., majoring in international business at Roosevelt College.

1. Unity

Sabouri Fab 5

This picture perfectly represents UCSD Men's Soccer as we are known as the strongest collective group year in and year out. When a team faces us, they face a strong entire squad with no weak links. This program has achieved great success through unity and work ethic, rather than individual skill. Furthermore, we as a team know that each and every one of us has each other's backs, and have built bonds among us that will last forever.

2. Leave It All on the Pitch

Jonathan Sabouri

Although we lost to CSUSB in this picture, we still gave it our all. With a defender in front of me, I made a pass forward to my teammate who I knew was leaving it all on the field. No matter if we were winning or losing throughout the season, I always counted on my teammates to work until the final whistle.

3. It's Go Time

Jonathan Sabouri

Before every game, I am grateful for every time my name and hometown gets called out. I never take it for granted as I know my time at UCSD is limited. After the announcement of my name, I wave to the fans and give a thumbs up to my coaches and teammates, meaning it's go time!

4. GOOAAALLLL!!!

Jonathan Sabouri

I love this picture because it is my celebration after scoring the gaming winning goal vs Biola University. It was my first goal of the season in 2019 and my facial expression shows how much it meant to score. Holding my hand up to my ear, I wanted the fans to cheer louder.

5. Communication is Key

Jonathan Sabouri

This is a photo of me alongside four teammates, all of whom are defensive players. Before the second half, I communicated to them what I believe could help us win, giving them a perspective of an offensive player. Communication throughout the entire season was key in achieving 14 wins.

Stay tuned for future editions of “Fab Five” from other UC San Diego scholar-athletes. Below are previous “Fab Five” collections:
