LA JOLLA, Calif. — The Pac-12 announced UC San Diego men's soccer's Nic Thiele as the conference's Defensive Player of the Week today after the Triton goalkeeper earned a pair of road shutouts last week.
 
Thiele made two saves at Houston Christian on Thursday before registering six at Air Force on Sunday. UC San Diego won both contests 1-0. Thiele's six saves on Sunday are tied for the second-most in his career.
 
The Tritons are 3-0-0 after the first two weeks of the season and have yet to give up a goal. That marks the team's longest shutout streak since joining Division I.
 
Thiele is a senior from Sunnyvale, California, majoring in cognitive science at Roosevelt College. He is one of the team's three captains this season.
 
UC San Diego men's soccer now has three Pac-12 Player of the Week winners this season. The opening week of action saw Gavin Carlson named Defensive Player of the Week and Oren Stuppel named Offensive Player of the Week.
 
The Tritons will be back in action this Saturday, Sept. 5, against Pacific. That home match will begin at 7:00 p.m. from Triton Soccer Stadium, with ESPN+ carrying the broadcast. This Saturday is also Youth Night, with free trident foam fingers given out to the first 100 kids in attendance. Tickets are available through Triton Box Office.
