NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – History was made on February 29 when the No. 10 University of California, San Diego women's water polo team won its first Big West conference game against No. T-20 CSU Northridge.
The Tritons improve to 12-5 on the season and win their first away game of the season. Against Big West opponents this season, the Tritons are 2-1.
Ciara Franke lead the scoring effort with three goals.
Taylor Onstott,
Tera Richardson and
Grace Pevehouse each scored two goals.
Maddie Bockman and
Jessee Ransone both added one goal.
The Tritons held the Matadors 1-for-9 on power plays.
Reilly Gallagher finished the game with nine saves.
The Matadors would strike first, but the Tritons would outscore them 8-4 to close out the half. The Tritons held CSU Northridge scoreless in the third quarter and took a 9-5 lead into the final frame. CSU Northridge made in close a scored two more goals to cut the deficit to two in the fourth, but a 3-0 run from the Tritons put the game out of reach.
The Tritons return to Canyonview Aquatic Center on March 1 for a pair of games. They face No. 2 Stanford at 11 a.m. and Long Island University at 4 p.m.
