Women's Water Polo Falls in Final Game of Barbara Kalbus Invite

IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 8 University of California, San Diego women's water polo team closed out the Barbara Kalbus tournament with a 10-6 loss to No. 7 California to take tenth place in the tournament.
 
Taylor Onstott and Jessee Ransone each scored a pair of goals for the Tritons. Ciara Franke and Grace Pevehouse were the other UC San Diego goal scorers. Bennett Bugelli had eight saves on the day. 
 
The Triton's offense played well early on but struggled to find the back of the net in the second half. They finished with a .194 shooting percentage and 0-8 on powerplays.
 
UC San Diego opened the game with a 3-1 first quarter but California slowed chipped away at the lead until the Bears took their first lead of the game with a penalty goal from Brigit Mulder in. the second quarter. Franke scored a penalty goal thirty seconds later to tie the game up 4-4 going into the half.
 
The Tritons would reclaim the lead two more times in the third quarter, but the Bears used a 5-0 run to take command of the game.
 
Women's water polo begins Big West Play on February 29 at CSU Northridge. The following day, they will host defending NCAA Champs Stanford and Long Island University.
