ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The No. 4 University of California, San Diego baseball team had its best offensive output of the season and defeated Sonoma State in game one of the series. The Tritons improve to 8-2 and 3-2 in conference play.
With the win today, Head Coach
Eric Newman earned his 300
th career win as the head coach of UC San Diego.
The Tritons were relentless at the plate and recorded a season high 20 hits and 20 runs. Ten different players recorded a hit while 13 registered RBIs. The defensive performance was equally as impressive and held Sonoma to five hits.
Cameron Leonard had his best outing of the season and struck out seven while only allowing three hits. The day was highlighted by him striking out three in a row in the sixth inning. It was his first win of the season and fifth in his career.
The Tritons had a season high four stolen bases in the game.
Brandon Stewart had a game high two stolen bases.

Shay Whitcomb on third,
Anthony Lucchetti blasted a hit to center field to bring Whitcomb in and take an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. At his next at bat in the third inning, Lucchetti hit the inside pitch for a solo home run to right field.
Blake Baumgartner and
Everett Lau recorded their first RBIs of the game in the fourth inning to increase the Triton's lead to 4-0.
The game broke open in the sixth inning as the Tritons recorded four more runs to take an 8-0 advantage. Lucchetti started the scoring output with his third RBI of the game.
Michael Fuhrman stepped up to the plate and doubled for a two run RBI.
Jo Bynum closed out the scoring spree with a hit to right field to bring Fuhrman home.
Ryan McNally was subbed into the line-up as a pinch hitter and hit a home run on his second pitch.
Luke Glascoe hit his first triple of his career to bring in a pair of runners, found his way to home plate and the Triton's extend the lead to 12-0.
The Tritons recorded eight runs in the final inning, the most they have recorded all season.
First game of the double header on February 22 will start at 11:00 am.
