Tritons Beat Iona, Upset No. 4 Cal to Close Out the UCSB Winter Invite

GOLETA, Calif. – The No. 13 University of California, San Diego women's water polo team closed out the weekend sweeping both their opponents. The day was highlighted by a triple-overtime win over No. 4 Berkeley for their first win ever over the Bears. After four games, UC San Diego sits at 3-1.

VS BERKELEY
Both teams played to the wire in a game that featured seven lead changes and nine ties.

The Bears struck first, but a pair of goals from Grace Pevehouse helped spark a 4-0 run for the Tritons and force a Berkeley timeout. After the timeout, Berkeley crawled back with a 4-0 run of its own to retake the lead. Both teams traded goals throughout the half to close it out 8-8.

Berkeley opened the fourth quarter with a goal in the first minute to take a 11-9 lead. Goals from Robyn Carter and Taylor Onstott equalized the game and sent it into overtime.

The Tritons would score first in the first two overtime periods but the Bears would respond each time to tie it up. In the third overtime, Ciara Franke was able to deliver and scored the golden goal to give the Tritons the win.

Franke led the way for the Tritons and matched a career high with five goals. Onstott added four more goals for UC San Diego.
