LA JOLLA, Calif. – One of the biggest Triton celebrations of the year takes place next week with the UC San Diego campus coming alive for its annual Spirit Night at RIMAC Arena.
The annual event is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 16 and takes place around the UC San Diego men's and women's basketball team's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader against Cal Poly Pomona. The women's basketball game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off with the men's contest starting at 8 p.m.
This year's Spirit Night event will be the final Spirit Night for UC San Diego as a member of NCAA Division II. The entire 23-sport intercollegiate athletic program will transition to Division I in the fall of 2020 with most teams joining the Big West Conference.
TRANSPORTATION
Paid parking is available in the Hopkins Parking Structure, adjacent to RIMAC Arena. Permits are required and may be purchased from kiosks in the structure or other campus lots. Ride sharing service Lyft is providing fans attending Spirit Night with 20 percent off two rides that day by using promo code SPIRITNIGHT20.
TICKETS
UC San Diego students are admitted to the basketball games free of charge. General admission tickets are available for $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 4-12 and seniors 65 and over. Youth ages 3-and-under are admitted free of charge. Reserved chairback seats are available for $12 for adults and $8 for youth and seniors. All tickets may be purchased at the RIMAC Arena Box Office beginning one hour prior to the women's game.
SPIRIT NIGHT SHUTTLE
Students can take a free shuttle to RIMAC for Fun Fest and the game! Stops will be at Revelle College and Canyon View Aquatic Center (Sixth and Warren). Make sure to bring your student ID to enter the arena!
SPIRIT NIGHT HISTORY
2020 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Cup of Cheer! This year, colleges will compete in five events throughout the week with the winner be announced at the end of the men's game. For more Spirit Week information, visit ucsdtritons.com/spiritweek.
