This toolkit is provided to help with outreach and encourage participation in UC San Diego's annual Spirit Night 2020. Please use the tools and messaging provided here to promote Spirit Week events and Spirit Night (Thursday, January 16, 2020) to your various audiences through appropriate communication channels.
Please do not edit the toolkit content, but do feel free to create additional materials for your individual colleges, club, organization, or other campus community member to further share the excitement. Theme & Main Message
"Let's Go Tritons!" - The goal of Spirit Week is to build Triton pride and spirit across campus through a variety of spirit week initiatives to highlight the blue and gold and share what it means to be a Triton. In addition, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Cup of Cheer, Spirit Week strives to create and foster a friendly competition among the six UC San Diego colleges culminating with a universal goal of packing RIMAC on
Thursday, January 16 for the Triton basketball doubleheader vs. Cal Poly Pomona.
Spirit Week Events
There are five core Spirit Week events in which the colleges will be awarded points through the week. The college with the highest amount of points will win the Cup of Cheer. The Cup of Cheer will be presented at the conclusion of the men's basketball game on Thursday, January 16. In addition, other events sponsored by the college councils and/or other campus organizations with the goal of building Triton pride and spirit will be held throughout the week.
MONDAY ACTIVITIES
Banner Competition: College banners will be hung in Price Center to help kick-off the week.
TUESDAY ACTIVITIES
Chalk the Walk: Showcasing Triton spirit on Library Walk through chalk.
THURSDAY ACTIVITIES
Tailgate: The annual Spirit Night Tailgate will start at 6 pm. be on RIMAC Field with access for students to engage in and out of RIMAC during the game (if location changes due to weather, communication will be sent out in a timely manner). The tailgate will feature food, courtesy of UC San Diego partners, games, a DJ, and more. Watch for details about the excitement.
Tritons Basketball: The UC San Diego women’s and men’s basketball teams will face off against Cal Poly Pomona in the annual Spirit Night. The women tip off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m. Seating will be open with students encouraged to fill the Triton Tide section beyond the basket FIRST. At halftime of both games, our traditional “musical chairs” will help add points in the race for the Cup of Cheer. Other fun games and interactive elements will happen, and Tritons will earn prizes throughout the game leading up to the ultimate prize if the attendance goal of 2,999 students is hit by halftime of the men’s basketball game!
