Tritons Storm into WWPA Semifinals With 20-5 Win Over Cal State Monterey Bay

GENEVA, Ohio — Seniors Carly Innis and Chanel Schilling recorded hat tricks with three goals apiece, leading the UC San Diego women's water polo team to a 20-5 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay in the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Championship Quarterfinals at the SPIRE Institute.

No. 1-seeded UC San Diego (19-13) won its 15th-consecutive conference tournament game, and advances to Saturday's WWPA Semifinal against No. 4 Gannon, beginning at 12 p.m. PT. The Tritons have won six-straight conference championships, 43-straight WWPA contests and nine of their last 10 overall.

Innis also recorded three steals, while both senior Shelby Stender and sophomore Tera Richardson had two goals and two assists. Junior goalkeeper Reilly Gallagher finished with 10 saves to earn the victory.

The Tritons took a 6-0 lead in the first period behind two goals apiece from Stender and sophomore Grace Pevehouse

Second-quarter scores from the senior trio of Halley Atkinson, Riley Heiduk and Maddy Wieseler extended the halftime lead to 9-2. The Tritons tacked on five goals in the third quarter and six in the fourth.
