LA JOLLA, Calif. – Despite holding Davis to only two goals in the second half and a star performance from Jack Turner in the goal, The No. 10 UC San Diego Tritons fell to No. 11 UC Davis 9-7 at Canyonview Aquatic Center.
Prior to the start of the game, the Tritons honored Noah Carniglia, Myles Martinez, Sam Thompson, Cooper Milton, Skyler Munatones and Jack Turner.
Turner had 14 saves on the day, with many of them coming down the stretch to give the Tritons the opportunity to come back. UC San Diego was only able to go 3-for-12 on power plays.
The Aggies had their biggest lead of the game when they opened the third quarter with a goal to take an 8-4 lead. Goals from Kaden Likens and Munatones cut the deficit to two. Munatones's fast break goal from Turner put some much need energy back into the team. Each team would score again in the beginning of the fourth quarter but the Tritons were unable to break the Aggie's defense to tie the game and send it to overtime.
The Tritons will enter the Western Water Polo Association Tournament as the number two seed and will await their tournament match-up based on this weekend's results. The WWPA tournament will take place November 22-24 in Riverside.
