LA JOLLA, Calif. - Playing its final home match of the season Saturday, the University of California San Diego women's volleyball team swept Cal State Dominguez Hills to improve its win streak to four. Scores from RIMAC Arena were 25-21, 25-23, and 25-20.
With the win on Senior Night, UC San Diego moved to 17-7 overall and 11-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Dominguez Hills dropped to 12-10 and 5-10. The Tritons won both meetings against the Toros this season.
Emily Hubbard established a new career high by putting down 17 kills. She added 13 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Trinity Castaneda, who had 16 kills in a win against 24th-ranked Cal State LA Friday, continued her strong play with 14 kills and a .433 hitting percentage. Gina Cortesi totaled nine kills, while Jessica Rieble had eight kills and six blocks. Both setter Isabela Dobra and libero Alyson Penrose both had 19 digs. Dobra dished out 42 assists en route to collecting her fifth double-double.
As a team, UC San Diego hit .283 (55-14-145) and held advantage in digs (75-63) and blocks (8-5).
For the Toros, Rylee Brown led all players with 20 kills. Taylor Benitez-Fanslow had 11 kills and 12 digs.
Prior to the match, the four Triton seniors - Claudia Mathews, Penrose, Rieble, and Sydney Tekstra - were honored.
The Tritons' four consecutive wins have all come in straight sets.
UC San Diego concludes its regular season schedule on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Cal State San Marcos. The following week, the Tritons will compete in the CCAA Tournament, which runs Nov. 21-23 at Cal State San Bernardino. UC San Diego punched its ticket into the eight-team tourney with its win over Cal State LA Friday.
