LOS ANGELES - The No. 18 University of California San Diego women's tennis team got back to its winning ways on Saturday afternoon, defeating Cal State LA, 6-3.
UC San Diego (13-10) bounced back after having its four-match winning streak snapped on Friday, and had a strong start to Saturday's dual match by winning two of three doubles matches.
The Tritons No. 2 team of Madison Hale and Alexandra Weil started the dual match with a victory over Chelsey Ruiz and Elizaveta Sokolova, 8-1, while the No. 3 unit of Nousha Nowamooz and Chloe Wight topped Snezana Ivanovic and Mariko Sagara by an identical score of 8-1.
The only blemish in doubles action was UC San Diego's No. 1 duo of Ashley Chao and Becky Chou dropping its match to Isabella Lopez and Amanda Schneider, 8-5.
Wight began singles play with a straight-sets win over Ivanovic, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 6 slot, and Hosseini followed with a No. 4 singles victory against Sagara, 6-2, 6-0. Chao, ranked No. 18 in the nation, lost her No. 1 singles contest to Sokolova, 6-2, 6-4, while Valeria Corral won her No. 5 singles match against Chelsey Ruiz, 6-4, 6-2.
No. 28-ranked Chou won her sixth-consecutive singles match by defeating Schneider in the No. 2 slot, 6-4, 6-7 (1), 10-6, and the dual match concluded with Weil falling short in a hard-fought No. 3 singles contest to Lopez, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
UC San Diego now awaits its NCAA Tournament fate.
