LA JOLLA, Calif. - The University of California San Diego women's tennis team defeated NCAA Division I opponent Cal Poly 4-3 at Northview Courts Sunday afternoon.

UCSD swept the three doubles matches and split the singles matches, 3-3.

In doubles, Britta Mosser and Shannon Theisen defeated Susanne Boyden/Seriana Saltzen 6-3 in the No. 1 spot. At No. 2, Ashley Chao and Becky Chou took a 6-3 decision and at No. 3 Alexandra Weil and Madison Hale defeated their opponents 6-2.

The first three spots in singles competition did not go the Tritons' way. At No. 1, Mosser was defeated by Louise Oxnevad in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0. At No. 2, Chao fell to Boyden (6-3, 6-2) and Chou lost to Saltzen (6-2, 6-4) at the No. 3 slot.

Jasmine Hosseini won (6-3, 6-2) against Molly Reed at No. 4 and Weil was victorious (6-4, 6-2) at No. 5 versus Abigail Bacharach. Valeria Corral captured the match-clinching victory at No. 6 when she downed Celine Gruaz in three sets (1-6, 7-5, 7-5).

"It was a huge win today," said UCSD head coach Liz LaPlante. "The team played well and with confidence."

UCSD, now 2-0 on the season, will face Azusa Pacific on Friday, Feb. 10, on Northview Courts at 2 p.m.
