LA JOLLA, Calif. - The No. 18 UC San Diego men's tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss against No. 18 Azusa Pacific Friday at Northview Courts.
UCSD fell to 12-7 overall, while APU improved to 17-3. The teams split the regular season series as the Tritons defeated the Cougars, 5-4, on Feb. 6 in Azusa.
Two of UC San Diego's three wins came in singles play.
At No. 3, Alexandre Miaule defeated Alan Leahy by scores of 6-2 and 6-4. With his fourth-consecutive victory, Miaule improved to 12-5.
In the fifth singles slot, Horea Poutiu was a 6-2, 6-2 winner against Olger van Gent.
At No. 1 singles, Eric Tseng was topped by Jan Meyer, the No. 2-ranked singles player in the nation, 6-1 and 7-6.
Miaule and Porutiu were also winners in doubles. In the top position, the duo downed Meyer and van Gent, 8-6, for their sixth-straight win as a team. They now hold a 14-3 record, with a perfect 4-0 mark while playing at No. 1.
The Tritons are ranked second in the West Region and the Cougars are third.
UC San Diego travels to No. 29 Point Loma on April 9 at 10:30 a.m. to round out its Division II regular season.
