LOS ANGELES – The 19th-ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team fell to No. 3 USC 17-4 in a non-conference matchup Friday at Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
The Trojans jumped out to a 4-0 lead before junior center Lauren Boyer buried one home to make it 4-1. USC put away two more goals before the end of the quarter to lead 6-1.
The Tritons were shut out in the second quarter while the Trojans put away three. UCSD trailed 9-1 going into halftime.
Redshirt junior two-meter defender Alexis Wieseler scored the first goal of the second half for the Tritons, to cut the deficit to seven. USC answered back with four goals before the end of the period as UCSD trailed 13-2 going into the final frame.
The Trojans outscored the Tritons 4-2 in the fourth period to cruise to win by 13 scores. The UCSD in the quarter came from Wieseler as she completed her hat trick.
The Tritons will have a week off before hosting Cal State East Bay on Friday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. UCSD will the host the two-day Triton Invitational on Feb. 13-14. The Tritons will open the tournament against Indiana on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 9:20 p.m.
