LA JOLLA, Calif. - For the first time this season, the University of California San Diego women's volleyball team lost a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match, falling to Sonoma State in four sets Saturday night at RIMAC Arena.
Scores were 24-26, 25-21, 28-26 and 25-23. UC San Diego, which entered the night as the lone CCAA team with no conference losses, is now 9-6 overall and 6-1 in league play. With the win, SSU improved to 6-8 and 4-3.
For the second-consecutive night, Rebecca Seaberry led the Tritons offensively, finishing with 17 points on 16 kills and two block assists. The junior middle blocker hit .640 with zero errors in 25 attack attempts, the best single-match hitting percentage of her career.
Senior outside hitter Meagan Wright (Bonita/Bonita Vista HS) had 15.5 points and posted a double-double with 15 kills and 17 digs. She hit .350 (15-1-40). Also recording double-doubles were Amanda Colla (Carlsbad/San Dieguito Academy) (10 kills, 12 digs), Kayla Evans (San Diego/Del Norte HS) (33 assists, 17 digs) and Rachel Linden (22 assists, 10 digs).
The 33 assists were a career-best for Evans, who has a double-double in four of her last five contests.
Lindsey Chun had a match-high 25 digs for the Tritons.
The Seawolves were led by Emily Papale, who tallied match-highs with 23.5 points and 19 kills. She also added 19 digs, three service aces and three block assists. Megan Bohorquez had a team-best 20 digs, while Rachel Andrews collected seven block assists.
UCSD hit .240 (64-20-183) on the night, while SSU ended at .269 (61-12-182). The Seawolves put down nine aces.
UCSD's six-match win streak to start its CCAA season was the Tritons' third overall and longest since 2004. They went 18-0 in 2004 and won their first six league contests in 2001.
UC San Diego faces a busy week with three matches. The Tritons play at Cal State LA on Oct. 11 and at No. 19 Cal State San Bernardino on Oct. 14 before returning to RIMAC Arena to host Cal Poly Pomona on Oct. 15.
