LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is excited to announce its most recent Hall of Fame inductees. The group of four Triton standouts was unveiled Wednesday by Director of Athletics Earl W. Edwards.
The class of 2015 includes John Flowers (swimming and diving, 1990-94), Erica Hinckson (cross country/track and field, 1990-93), Louise Schwartz (volleyball, 1980-83) and Brian Siljander (soccer, 1987-90).
The inductees span the years 1980-94 and each has either won an individual NCAA national championship or helped their team earn a national title.
“I am very honored and humbled to be nominated and inducted into the UC San Diego Athletics Hall of Fame," said Schwartz, who helped the Tritons win an NCAA women's volleyball national championship in 1981, the first for UCSD in any sport. "I have so many great memories from my time as a Triton. It is thrilling to see how far UC San Diego Athletics has come from that first championship in 1981. I enjoy coming back to watch matches and seeing the current players and reuniting with volleyball alumni.”
Siljander, a goalkeeper, was instrumental in helping the men's soccer team earn its first-ever national championship in 1988.
"First and foremost, I am honored to be recognized like this," said Siljander. "My time with the soccer team was one of the highlights of my life. I love everything about UCSD and I am so fortunate to have been a Triton. I am proud that our teams were so decorated, and certainly my selection is a reflection of that entire team effort."
Flowers won seven NCAA national titles in the pool, while Hinckson won one and was a 10-time All-America performer on the track.
The foursome will officially be inducted during a ceremony on Sunday, Oct. 11, as part of Homecoming Weekend on campus.
"In just two years of existence, the UC San Diego Athletics Hall of Fame has already become a significant part of our tradition," said Edwards. "The level of success our program has enjoyed throughout its history makes membership a truly elite honor. With each having won either a personal NCAA Championship or being part of a team title, the four 2015 inductees will clearly amplify the luster of this recognition."

To nominate an individual for future Hall of Fame consideration, please fill out either an electronic form or a printable mail-in form. Student-athletes may be considered for Hall of Fame induction 10 years after the completion of their eligibility. Coaches and staff qualify following three years of separation from UC San Diego or 25 years of consecutive service.
Throughout its history of athletic and academic excellence, UCSD has won 30 team national championships and 138 individual titles. A remarkable 1,243 student-athletes have been named to All-America teams.
