SOLANA BEACH, Calif. - The UC San Diego Department of Intercollegiate Athletics held its annual golf tournament on Monday, May 1, at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club in Solana Beach.
It was the 27th running of the tourney and the second-straight year that Lomas Santa Fe served as host.
Formerly called the Triton Athletic Fund Golf Tournament, the event generates financial support that enhances the educational and athletic experiences for UC San Diego's nearly 600 Division I scholar-athletes. As the Triton athletic program continues to make progress toward full Division I membership in fall of 2024, the Triton Athletic Fund plays a critical role toward providing resources that enhance scholar-athlete personal, athletic, and academic development.
Over 70 participants played 18 holes of golf on the par-72, William Bell-designed course. The groups consisted of Triton supporters and sponsors as well as UC San Diego Athletics coaches and staff members.
At 14-under par, the foursome of Bill Cohn, Marty Gluck, Jay Potter, and Scott Smull took home the team title. Two strokes back in second place were Jeff Collett, Richard Kilwien, Jason Lawhead, and David Tuyo. Two groups tied for third at 11-under par.
A dinner followed the tournament with comedian Lawhead doing a short set fresh off his second-place finish.
