SOLANA BEACH, Calif. - The UC San Diego Department of Intercollegiate Athletics recently held its 28th annual golf tournament in support of Triton scholar-athletes.
A record 26 foursomes took over Lomas Santa Fe Country Club on a beautiful San Diego spring day with the goal of helping to provide an optimal scholar-athlete experience for the 600 men and women participating on the University's 23 intercollegiate teams.
Aside from 18 holes of golf, the event also featured dinner along with a silent auction and raffle.
When all was said and done on the course, the group of Sara Allard (Robinson), Nicole Saari Brown, Bobby Meyers, and Daniel O'Connors came away with bragging rights. Allard '07 and Saari Brown '10 are both former softball standouts at UC San Diego.
Several other past Triton scholar-athletes played included Clint Allard '08 (men's basketball), Matt Aune '97 (men's basketball), Sam Higgins '02 (baseball/basketball), and Curtis Wiliamson '07 (water polo).
In addition, current members of UC San Diego's coaching staff took part including men's basketball head coach Eric Olen and associate head coach Clint Allard as well as men's golf head coach Fred Hanover.
The event helps offer UC San Diego scholar-athletes a valuable, diversified experience that benefits them far beyond their years at the University. Funds are used for such items as scholarships, team travel, equipment, uniforms, recruiting, and otherwise improving the scholar-athletes' undergraduate years. Donations can be directed to a specific intercollegiate team or designated for the general fund.
The 2025 UC San Diego Golf Tournament is set for Monday, May 5, at Maderas Golf Club in Poway, Calif.
