CLAREMONT, Calif. - After starting the day with a 14-3 win against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, the No. 20 UC San Diego women's water polo team fell 9-8 to Pomona-Pitzer in overtime. With the split, the Trtions move to 9-13.
Game One
With game tied at 1-1 in the first quarter, the Tritons came out firing scoring the next two goals thanks to Laurel Kistler and Lauren Boyer to close out the frame with a 3-1 lead.
UCSD then opened the second period with back-to-back goals from Kistler and Julia Kirkland to extend its lead to four. Behind junior goalkeeper Courtney Miller, the Tritons defense held the Athenas to just one goal for the second straight quarter and closed out the half with a 7-2 lead.
The Tritons shined in the third quarter. On top of holding CMS scoreless, UCSD made five goals, three of which came from freshman Kayla Fedler to complete the hat trick.
Lauren Finwall and Rachel Emami closed out the final frame adding on two goals for the Tritons to complete the 14-3 win.
Game Two
Senior attacker Jolene Guiliana put the Tritons up early, notching the first goal of the game only a 1:23 into the first quarter. Lani Tittle and Fedler each scored before the end of the period to give UCSD a 3-2 lead.
After a scoreless second frame for both squads, the Sagehens and Tritons battle back and forth in the third quarter as Pomona-Pitzer tied it up at six apiece.
The Sagehens opend the final frame with two goals, but Fedler and Boyer each scored to send the game into overtime. But unfortunately, Morgan McCracken scored in the second overtime to give Pomona-Pitzer the 9-8 win.
