SAN DIEGO - Entering the Aztec Invite with 992 saves, junior goalie Courtney Miller made 11 stops against Bucknell to put her over the milestone mark of 1,000 saves. Miller then recorded eight saves against No. 10 Princeton, bringing her career total to 1,011.
Behind the Honolulu, Hawaii native's stellar performance in the cage, the No. 20 UC San Diego women's water polo team split the day with a 13-6 win against Bucknell before dropping 10-9 to Princeton on Saturday at the Azetc Aquaplex.
The Tritons jumped on Bucknell early in the opening match. With four goals in the first and second quarter, UCSD took an 8-3 lead into the half.
Miller held the Bison to back-to-back one goal quarters as the Tritons extend their lead to 10-4 at the end of the third frame. They capped off the win scoring three more goals in the final period to win, 13-6.
UCSD was led by Lauren Boyer, who scored a career-high five goals, against Bucknell. Julia Kirkland also completed the hat trick in the opening match.
In game two, UCSD used a massive third quarter to take its first lead against Princeton. The Tritons entered the half trailing the Tigers, 5-3, but came out firing in the third frame, scoring six goals to take a 9-8 lead.
Unfortunately, Princeton blanked UCSD in the closing quarter while netting two of its own for the 10-9 win.
The Tritons were led by Laurel Kistler, who tied a career-high four goals.
UCSD will conclude play at the Aztec Invite tomorrow as they take on No. 17 Wagner and No. 16 Indiana at 10:30 a.m. and 2:45 p.m., respectively.
