LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 19th-ranked UC San Diego women's tennis team earned its first win of the 2015 season by defeating No. 13 Azusa Pacific, 6-3, at Northview Courts Saturday.
UCSD (1-2) won four of six singles match-ups and two of three doubles contests to take the win over the Cougars (1-2).
In doubles play, Nava Nowamooz and Shannon Theisen paired up for an 8-3 win over Sierra Troxel and Lindsey Yeom at No. 2. The Tritons dropped the next doubles match, but Britta Mosser and Kyra Scott beat Danae Ingwaldson and Natalie Johnson, 8-6, to give the Tritons an advantage as they headed to singles.
In singles play, Scott defeated Johnson at No. 1 (6-3, 4-6, 10-8), Jasmine Hosseini beat Valeriia Kashina (6-2, 6-2) at the No. 2 spot, Mosser topped Ingwaldson at No. 3 (6-3, 6-2) and Nowamooz took the final singles win by downing Troxel (6-3, 6-4) at the No. 4 spot.
The Tritons will host crosstown rival Point Loma on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
