SAN DIEGO - The 18th-ranked UC San Diego men's tennis team opened its 2015 season with a 7-2 victory at Point Loma Wednesday.
UCSD cruised to a 3-0 sweep in doubles and went on to win four of six singles contests.
At No. 1 doubles, Axel Bouillin and Rajeev Herekar earned an 8-3 win against Andre Staab and Daniel Milliken. Alexandre Miaule and Horea Porutiu downed Martin Blaho and CJ Erion, 8-6, at No. 2 and Kona Luu and Mark Meyer topped Grant Alston and James Tenbroeck, 8-2, at No. 3.
Eric Tseng (No. 2), Porutiu (No. 3), Herekar (No. 4) and Justin Zhang (No. 6) were winners in singles action. The latter three won their matches in straight sets.
Zhang's 6-2, 6-4 win against Alston clinched the victory for UCSD.
The Tritons open their home season on Saturday, Feb. 6, against Azusa Pacific. The match begins at 3 p.m. on Northview Courts.
