STOCKTON, Calif. - The No. 11 UC San Diego women's water polo team closed out the weekend by falling to No. 20 Pacific, 8-5, on Sunday at Chris Kjeldsen Pool Complex in Stockton.
The Tritons move to 6-7 overall following the loss.
Lani Tittle led UCSD with two goals while Courtney Miller made 15 stops in the cage.
UCSD got off to a solid start in Sunday's match. With 6:09 left in the first frame, Tittle netted the first goal of the game on a power play. The Tigers pulled ahead 2-1, but Laurel Kistler scored in the final minute of the period to tie it at two apiece.
The Tritons regained the lead with an early goal from Jolene Guiliana in the second quarter. Pacific's Gracie Smith found the back of the cage next. Still, the Tritons held a 5-3 advantage at the half behind goals from Lauren Boyer and Tittle.
UCSD struggled on offense in the final half as Pacific held the Tritons scoreless while adding on five scores to take the eventual win, 8-5.
The Tritons will head to Irvine next to compete in the UCI Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. UCSD opens up the tournament with a 9:15 a.m. game against Hawai'i.
