FULLERTON, Calif., - The UC San Diego women's tennis team came up short in its second road match against a NCAA Division I opponent, falling by a 5-2 score to Cal State Fullerton at Titan Courts on Wednesday.
Fullerton won four singles matches and took all three doubles contests. UCSD dropped to 0-2 with the loss, while Fullerton moved to 2-0 overall.
Despite being swept in doubles, the Tritons had strong performances in singles.
Kyra Scott earned UCSD its first point of the match with a huge victory as the junior defeated Camille De Leon 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
With Scott setting the pace, freshman Jasmine Hosseini followed suit and beat Danielle Pham 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Sophomores Britta Mosser and Shannon Theisen put up a good fight at No. 2 singles and No. 5 singles, respectively. Mosser took the first set against Emilia Borkowski, but ultimately lost 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Theisen nearly had a comeback victory against Michelle Erasmus. After falling in the first set, Theisen won the second set but dropped the final set as she lost 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
The Tritons will have a couple of weeks off before playing their first home match of the season on Saturday, February 7, against Azusa Pacific. The contest is set to start at 10 a.m. at Northview Tennis Courts.
