CARSON, Calif. - Aleks Lipovic netted five three-pointers for the second-straight night as the UC San Diego men's basketball team defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills, 70-50, Saturday at the Torodome.
With its fifth consecutive victory, UCSD improved to 9-5 overall and 7-3 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. CSUDH continued to struggle, falling to 4-12 on the season and staying winless in the league at 0-10.
"I thought we played with a lot of energy and toughness for the second game this week," said UCSD head coach Eric Olen. "We competed defensively and had great balance and ball movement on offense."
Lipovic scored all 15 of his points on threes, going 5-for-8 from behind the line. Friday at Cal State L.A., he also finished with 15, draining five of his six long-range shots.
Adam Klie had 11 points and Drew Dyer had 10, while Zach McMillan brought down a game-high 11 rebounds. Klie also handed out six assists.
The Tritons made 13 treys, with six players hitting at least one. They held a sizable 42-23 advantage in rebounds, including a 14-2 edge on the offensive end.
Ivan Dooley had a game-high 16 points for the Toros. Tyler Payne followed with 12.
Cal State Dominguez Hills scored the first two points of the game on a Justin Sadler layup. Klie tied it up with a layup and a Dyer jumper at 17:18 put the Tritons up 4-2. UCSD, which led 36-24 at halftime, never gave up its lead after Dyer's bucket.
"Any road win in this league is a good win," said Olen.
The last time UC San Diego won five straight games was during the 2008-09 season.
The Tritons are home for the next two weeks. They host Cal State San Bernardino on Jan. 23 and Humboldt State on Jan. 24 to complete the first half of the CCAA season. Both games tip at 7:30 p.m.
