MEN'S SOCCER LOOKS TO EXTEND WIN STREAK AT HOME
Coach Jon Pascale's Men's Soccer, 3-1 overall and riding a modest two-game winning streak, finishes up a four-game home set with non-conference matches Thursday vs. Cal Baptist and Saturday against Azusa Pacific.
Thursday night in La Jolla, a goal at 74:28 by freshman Zach Lagotta lifted UCSD to a 2-1 decision over Dixie State…Brandon Bauman and Malek Bashti assisted…The Tritons took an early lead when sophomore transfer Kuba Waligorski deposited a Gerrit van Zyll corner in the 20th minute…But the Red Storm countered less than two minutes later and that's how it stayed until Lagotta's netted his first collegiate goal.
Three nights later, the Tritons exploded for four goals, two in the first half by Alessandro Canale, and turned in their first shutout of the season, 4-0, against a better-than-the-score-indicated Cal State San Marcos club...Sophomores Gerrit van Zyll and Sam Palano tallied four minutes apart in the second half to provide the final cushion...Seniors Brandon Bauman and Nick Roberts each had two assists and keeper Cameron McElfresh made a pair of saves...It was the Tritons highest goal-scoring output since the final regular season match of 2012 vs. Cal State Monterey Bay (5).

WOMEN'S SOCCER AIMS FOR CONSISTENCY ON ROAD
Coach Brian McManus's Women's Soccer team hits the road for a pair of games this week after splitting home contests against Pac-West Conference foes last week…UCSD, now 2-2, travels to Point Loma Tuesday and then faces CCAA rival Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday in a non-conference clash.
Senior Izzy Pozurama's cross cage poke 1:08 into the second overtime lifted UCSD to a 2-1 home triumph over Azusa Pacific last Thursday…An APU score with 16:26 remaining in regulation created a desperate situation for McManus & Co. but a pair of freshmen brought the Tritons even in the 83rd minute as Sophia Hyver headed home Jordyn McNutt's corner kick to force OT…Saturday, UCSD had difficulty handling the pace and physicality of visiting Cal Baptist, ultimately falling to the Lancers, 2-0..The shots were close, 13-12 in favor of the road team, but CBU had the better chances and kept the Tritons on their heels all night.

VOLLEYBALL OPENS CCAA PLAY WITH BACK-TO-BACK WINS; HOME FOR THREE THIS WEEK
Sporting a spotless (2-0) conference record and a 4-2 overall mark, the 14th-ranked Women's Volleyball team winds up a five-match home stand with clashes against Cal Poly Pomona (3-2/1-1) Wednesday, Cal State L.A. (4-1/2-0) Friday and Cal State Dominguez Hills (1-5/0-2) Saturday at RIMAC Arena.
Senior Caitlin Brenton (.464) and junior Danielle Dahle (.315) had 15 kills apiece as UCSD rebounded from a terrible first set to blow out Cal State Stanislaus, 3-1, in Friday night's CCAA opener…The pair also combined for five of the Tritons' nine aces and junior setter Heidi Sierks dished out 42 assists.
Brenton and Dahle were back at it again Saturday night, totaling 30 kills, as UCSD overcame another slow start to drop Chico State in four sets…Brenton was particularly effective, hitting an even .400, racking up seven total blocks and rattling off three aces…The Tritons dominated the net, winning the blocking battle, 16-1…Sierks had a 40-assist, 14-dig night, freshman Amanda Colla chipped in with 10 kills and junior Kameron Cooper and freshman Rebecca Seaberry each matched Brenton's seven total blocks.

NORCAL TOURNAMENT ON TAB FOR MEN'S POLO
Coach Denny Harper's Men's Water Polo team makes the trek to Stockton this weekend for the annual 16-team NorCal Tournament, hosted Saturday and Sunday at Pacific…The Tritons, 2-3 on the season, open up Saturday morning at 9:20 AM vs. No. 8 UC Irvine…They will face either Redlands or Stanford that afternoon…Sunday's schedule will be determined by Saturday's results.
Seniors Josh Stiling (3) and Luca DeVivo (2) racked up half of UCSD's 10 goals but it was not enough to get the No. 10 Tritons a “W” as No. 7 host UC Santa Barbara prevailed, 13-10, Saturday afternoon…The Gauchos owned a 6-5 halftime lead…UCSD knotted things at six in the third but UCSB outscored Harper's club, 7-4, down the stretch.

CROSS COUNTRY SOLID AT UCR INVITATIONAL
Coach Nate Garcia's Cross Country outfits will take a two-week competitive hiatus after capturing dual fifth place results at Saturday's UC Riverside Invitational…UCSD will be back in action Sept. 27 at the Stanford Invitational.
At Riverside, the Triton women scored 145 pts., well behind top finisher Utah Valley (95) but just 32 points out of second place...UCSD was the top D-II entry in the 20-team field, beat a handful of D-I opponents and topped three CCAA rivals—Cal State L.A., Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State San Bernardino…For the second consecutive outing, junior Corinne Hinkle was UCSD's best performer, copping 12th with a time of 21:30.2 for 6K…Senior Paige Hughes and junior Chandler Colquitt were 20th and 22nd respectively with senior Madison Tanner and junior Marie Diaz rounding out the scoring.
In the 29-team men's 8K Invitational, junior Tareq Alwafai (24:42.5) and senior Daniel Hauptman (24:51.2) snagged 17th and 22nd place, pacing the Tritons to a total of 155 points…Minnesota of the Big 10 ran away from the field scoring just 43 pts…The Triton men were also best among D-II teams and finished up in the standings on CCAA adversaries Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Monterey Bay…Scott Acton, Tanner Collins and Carlos Bojorquez filled out the 3-4-5 slots for UCSD.
