HALL OF FAME NOMINATIONS BEING TAKEN
Nominations remain open one more week for the second class of the UC San Diego Athletics Hall of Fame…The HOF Committee will begin reviewing nominations the first week in June with the 2014 inductees slated to be officially recognized on Homecoming Weekend, Oct. 10-12…Last year's inaugural group of eight included former Athletic Director Judy Sweet, swimmers Travis Miller and Bill Kazmierowicz, women's water polo Olympian Julie Swail, Ele Johnson (women's soccer), Christine Behrens (women's tennis), Diana Klintworth (women's volleyball) and former volleyball head coach Doug Dannevik…Click here to submit a nomination or get more information.


HOWE, PIMENTEL GRAB AA ACCOLADES AT  NCAA TRACK & FIELD MEET
Juniors Nash Howe and Sabrina Pimentel earned All-American status at last week's NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships, hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale, MI…It was the second All-America recognition for both…Howe flung the javelin 211-0 in the first round…It wound up being his best mark of the competition and left him in sixth place, one spot better then he finished a year ago…Pimentel, who garnered AA honors in 2012 as a member of the Tritons' 4x400 relay squad, hit the line eighth in the 800 m., clocking 2:11.02…She was ninth in the same event as a sophomore.


The three other UCSD participants in Michigan were redshirt freshman decathlete Dan Golubovic (12th/6,616 pts.), sophomore middle distance runner Carlos Bojorquez (1,500/14th/3:56.20) and junior javelin thrower Anthony Capitulo (17th/192-6)…For complete Track & Field updates, click here.

BASEBALL STARS COP NATIONAL, REGIONAL RECOGNITION
UCSD's top Baseball players racked up a bevy of post-season honors after going 38-16, winning the CCAA Championship Tournament and finishing second in the NCAA's West Region…Sophomore 3B/P Troy Cruz won third team Daktronics All-American honors…Five Tritons captured Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Assn. (ABCA) All-Region status…Seniors Nick La Face and Justin Rahn and junior Erik Lewis took first team, sophomore pitcher Justin Donatella was a second team choice and junior catcher Brett Levy was named the Division II Gold Glove winner at his position…La Face and Cruz were honorable mention selections to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assn. (NCBWA) All-Region first team…Lewis and Rahn were second teamers and Donatella was a third team pick…Click here for the latest Baseball news.


      

SOFTBALL'S BROWN TABBED AS ALL-AMERICAN
Senior catcher/first baseman Caitlin Brown from the Triton Softball team earned honorable mention Daktronics All-American acknowledgement last week…Both Brown and freshman outfielder Callie Grant were named to the National Fast Pitch Association (NFPA) All-Region squad, Grant gaining first team status and Brown second…Brown was a first teamer as a sophomore in 2012…Click here to get the latest Softball news.
