BASEBALL SWEEPS CAL STATE L.A., FOUR-GAME SET AT STANISLAUS NEXT
Now sporting a seven-game win streak and having climbed into a tie for third place in the CCAA race, Coach Eric Newman's Baseball team continues a stretch of 11 consecutive games on the road when it travels to Cal Baptist Wednesday for a non-conference tilt and then heads to Turlock for a four-game set with last place Cal State Stanislaus (11-21/5-18)…The Tritons are now 21-10 overall and 17-7 in conference play…Sonoma State leads the CCAA at 16-4.
Timely hitting and a gritty performance by soph righty Justin Donatella lifted UCSD to a 6-3 game one win over Cal State L.A. last Thursday night…After getting touched up for a pair of first inning runs, Donatella went eight innings, giving up just four hits total and whiffing five while picking up win No. 5...The Tritons bounced back from a 3-0 defiict, keyed by a four-run seventh in which singles by freshman Tyler Howsley, junior Erik Lewis and senior Nick La Face drove in the tying, go-ahead and insurance runs…It was more of the same the next night as freshman Jack Larsen stroked a one out ninth inning single that scored Troy Cruz and Brandon Shirley, finishing off a three-run inning and powering the Tritons to a 4-3 come-from-behind victory…Junior Trevor Scott started and went seven innings but senior Dan Kolodin pirated the win in relief.
UCSD finished off the Golden Eagles Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader in L.A., 13-2 and 2-0…The Tritons finally solved CSULA pitching in the opener, pounding 19 hits, including five doubles, and essentially put the contest away with a five-run fourth…Shirley, Michael Mann and Justin Rahn all had three hits with the latter pair also accounting for seven runs batted in…Chad Reiser, the second of four hurlers, picked up the win…The series finale was a pitching duel and Triton sophomore Cruz bested the Golden Eagles with a complete game, four-hitter for his fourth win of the year…UCSD got all it needed on offense in the first inning, scoring a run without the benefit of a hit…Senior Garrett Tuck tripled home the second run and had two hits for Newman's club…To stay current with the Baseball team, click here.

SOFTBALL TAKES PLATINUM CROWN AT TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS
With a 6-1 record and the platinum bracket championship at last weekend's Mizuno Tournament of Champions now safely stored away, Coach Patti Gerckens' Softball team returns to CCAA action when it travels to San Francisco State (14-27/6-18) this Friday and Saturday for a four-game showdown with the Gators…The Tritons ran their overall mark to 28-7 and remain first in the CCAA standings at 17-3, one game up on Cal State Monterey Bay…SFSU is mired in ninth.
At the TOC, the Tritons opened with a 9-5 win over Chaminade, a contest where they trailed, 5-0, after three and a half innings...Game two was a disappointing, 5-4, loss to Dominican that saw them surrender three runs in the bottom of the sixth, letting the game slip away...Emma Schneider hit the first of her two tourney homers and Alexis Edwards threw a complete game for her 12th win, 4-1, over Cal Baptist, closing out first day action...Edwards came right back to shut out Hawaii Pacific, 3-0, on two hits Saturday as the Tritons got two of their three hits in a two-run third inning...Schneider then hit a two-run homer and McKenna Clewett had three hits in a 7-4 win over Notre Dame de Namur.
Sunday's final day saw Edwards lock up Montana State-Billings on three hits for her 15th victory as UCSD prevailed, 1-0...Doubles by Caitlin Brown and Katie Saunders produced the lone run in the fourth...The Tritons won their fifth straight, 8-5, over Cal State East Bay in the tournament finale...Brown homered, doubled and drove in four and sophomore Callie Grant capped a brilliant three days with a three-hit performance...UCSD bounced back from a 4-0 first inning deficit and Edwards came on in relief to garner her fifth win in three days...Edwards and Grant, who went 13-for-24 (.542) for the weekend, were named to the All-Tournament team...Click here for more Softball information.
TRITON MEN GRAB SECOND AT CAL-NEVADA CHAMPIONSHIPS, WOMEN SEVENTH
In the wake of an impressive effort as host of the 2014 Cal-Nevada Championships last weekend, the Track & Field team will have a split schedule this coming weekend with most of the squad's NCAA qualifiers going to Tempe, AZ for Friday's Sun Angel Invitational at Arizona State and the bulk of the squad competing at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational Saturday…The UCSD men moved up five places from last year to finish second at the Cal-Nevada meet while the women stepped up three slots from 2013 to claim seventh.
Catalysts for the men were sophomore Carlos Bojorquez who made a bold move on the final backstretch and held on to win the 1,500 m. (3:55.18) and runner-up finishers Jared Senese (800/1:51.62), Keith Rose (100/10.71) and Nash Howe (javelin/214-8)…UCSD wound up 75.5 pts. behind team champion Long Beach State but up the ladder from 2013 winner Sacramento State and system rivals UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine…The Triton women chalked up 49 pts., just 35 out of third and also had an individual winner, junior Paige Hughes, who ran away from the 10,000 m. field in 37:04.59…Other notables were junior Sabrina Pimentel (800/2nd/2:12.73) and junior Anneke Kakebeen who broke her own school mark in the 3,000 m. steeplechase (11:14.13)...San Diego State won the women's crown for the fourth consecutive year…For complete meet results and all Track & Field information, click here.

TWO GOLDS FOR WOMEN ROWERS AT S.D. CREW CLASSIC; OREGON REGATTA ON TAP
Following an exciting San Diego Crew Classic weekend that included a pair of gold medal races, the Women's Rowing team travels to Oregon this weekend for the Covered Bridge Regatta in Eugene...Coach Colin Truex will field three boats (V8, JV8, Novice 8) Saturday and expects to see key regional rivals Western Washington, Seattle Pacific and Humboldt State, among others, opposite them on the starting line.
Sunday's championship day at the annual Crew Classic got off to a rocky start for the Tritons as the varsity eight never got untracked and finished seventh in its grand final...But things ended up in electric fashion as the Varsity Four—Emma Purchell, Kat Tehaney, Nicole Arkosy, Hollie Dunn and coxswain Cat Sheffler--steamrolled the field from lane one…UCSD beat D-II rivals Central Oklahoma and Barry by open water (8.5 seconds)…It was the second straight V-4 title for the Tritons despite the fact that Sheffler was the only returnee in the lineup…And one race later, the Novice eight put on a similarly dominant performance (also from the inside lane), out-distancing runner-up Orange Coast College by nearly five seconds to win a first-ever top-of-the-podium finish for UCSD in that division…Manning the boat were Amber Harris, Lauren Ianneta, Kimmie McCune, Sofia DeWolfe, Sophia Krause-Levy, Jen Dutton, Madalynne Carattini and coxswain Ana Katz…Click here to get all Women's Crew updates.

MEN'S CREW SET FOR GW INVITATIONAL; NOVICES POST HIGHEST CREW CLASSIC FINISH
Coach Zach Johnson's Men's Rowing team heads to Washington, D.C. this weekend for Saturday's George Washington Invitational...In addition to UCSD, the field will include George Washington, Virginia and Georgetown…Johnson will be entering boats in the varsity eight, JV eight and novice eight.
Last weekend's San Diego Crew Classic produced an interesting batch of results for the Tritons…The UCSD varsity eight, invited the prestigious Copley Cup, finished fourth in the petite final but Johnson was generally pleased with its progress, given the evolving nature of the lineup…The JV eight, featuring a lineup that is still somewhat interchangeable with the varsity eight, won the petite final over UC Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, UC Irvine, UCLA, etc. after racing in Saturday's prelims with a bent fin (rudder)…Sunday's highlight may have been a best-ever performance by the novice eight which hit the wire third in the grand final behind Cal and Orange Coast College...For Men's Crew updates, click here.

SIX IN A ROW FOR MEN'S TENNIS; FINAL HOME MATCH VS. POINT LOMA TUESDAY
Coach Timmer Willing's No. 11 Men's Tennis team upgraded its record to 15-6 and ran its dual match win streak to six in a row with a trio of road wins last weekend…The Tritons play their final home contest of the year Tuesday afternoon vs. Point Loma and then close out the regular season Friday at Azusa Pacific…UCSD defeated Point Loma, 7-2, earlier in the season while APU handed the Tritons one of their six losses, 5-4…Wins in the two matches would virtually assure UCSD a berth in the NCAA West Regionals.
Last Friday, Willing's netters started their three-match sojourn in Oakland where they ravaged Holy Names, 9-0, with Max Jiganti, Rajeev Herekar, Kona Luu, Alexandre Miaule and Mark Meyer all gathering wins in both singles and doubles…Saturday in Fresno, UCSD recorded its second, 5-4, decision over Fresno Pacific this year, vaulting to a 2-1 lead after doubles, getting singles wins from Herekar at No. 2 and Andrew Malozsak at No. 6 and then the clincher from Jiganti at No. 1…Sunday, also in Fresno, the Tritons out-scored Sonoma State by a combined, 24-10, in doubles and took all six singles matches in straight sets on the way to a 9-0 romp, their second whitewash of the Seawolves on the season…For all things Men's Tennis, click here.
WOMEN'S TENNIS ON ROAD FOR TWO
Coach Liz LaPlante's Women's Tennis team saw its record sink to 8-13 Saturday with a 7-2 defeat on the road at Cal State L.A….The Tritons, struggling of late, had beaten the Golden Eagles, 6-3, at home in February…UCSD pulled out its two points in singles, getting straight set victories from senior Tara Vanooteghem at No. 4 and junior Lisa Asai at No. 6…UCSD is back on the road this week, squaring off against Point Loma Wednesday and Azusa Pacific Saturday…Click here to check out more on Women's Tennis.
PACIFIC, STANFORD FINAL FOES FOR MEN'S VOLLEYBALL
After collecting its third win of the year Saturday night, Coach Kevin Ring's Men's Volleyball team closes out the 2014 campaign this weekend hosting Pacific (3-22) and No. 4 Stanford (18-7) at RIMAC Arena…The Cardinal sport a nine-match winning streak heading into a Friday encounter at UC Irvine…Saturday will be Senior Night which will include a pre-game recognition of Mike Brunsting, Nick Iorfino, Johl Awerkamp and Fred Stahl.
Friday night at RIMAC, Ring's club went toe-to-toe with No. 7 UC Irvine in three of four sets, but came away on the short end of a 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-18, 25-13) verdict…UCSD hit a creditable .260 on the night with Iorfino accounting for 16 kills…Brunsting handed out 41 assists…Saturday, it took just 53 minutes for the Tritons to dispatch of visiting UC Merced 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-11) with Awerkamp (9 kills) and sophomore Eric Barber (8) leading the way…Freshman Kirill Rudenko came off the bench to blast five of UCSD's 11 kills and Awerkamp had a trio…Click here for the latest Men's Volleyball news.

After running roughshod over three WWPA foes and going undefeated overall in Northern California last weekend, Coach Brad Kreutzkamp's Women's Water Polo team scales back the schedule this week with a single home outing as WWPA adversary Cal State San Bernardino visits Canyonview Pool Friday night…With five consecutive victories and eight in its last nine games, UCSD has upped its season ledger to 22-10 and all but assured itself of the top seed in the upcoming WWPA Championship Tournament (April 22-25) with the weekend performance.
Saturday in Sonoma, the 13th-ranked Tritons routed Sonoma State, 16-6, and Cal State Monterey Bay, 15-6, with junior Jolene Guiliana recording hat tricks in each…Sophomore Julia Kirkland matched Guiliana's three goals in game one and senior Sarah Lizotte did the same vs. Monterey Bay…Sunday morning at Santa Clara, the Tritons opened up a 7-2 halftime edge and put away Cal State East Bay handily, 10-3…Guiliana and Lizotte each found the back of the cage four times and sophomore goalie Courtney Miller made 10 stops…That afternoon, Lizotte scored four goals and Guiliana three as UCSD scored in double digits for the fifth straight time in topping Pacific, 13-11…Miller had 11 more saves in this one…For all of your Women's Water Polo information, click here.
