HILO, Hawaii- The No. 17 UC San Diego women's tennis team lost, 8-1, against second-ranked BYU-Hawaii on day two of its three-day trip to the islands.
UCSD was swept in singles matches and fell in two of three doubles matchups. With the loss, the Tritons are now 3-3 on the season, while the Seasiders remained unbeaten at 6-0.
Tara Vanooteghem and Laura Wilke secured the lone win for the Tritons at No. 3 doubles. The duo defeated Jade Griffin and Alexandra Ulbrichtova, 8-5. At No. 1, Paula Chou and Kyra Scott were defeated, 8-3, and at No. 2, Nava Nowamooz and Shannon Theisen fell, 8-6.
Two Tritons forced three sets in their singles match-ups, with Scott falling 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 and Vanooteghem losing 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4.
UCSD wraps up play in Hawaii on Sunday as they face fourth-ranked Hawaii Pacific at 2 p.m (PT).
